For some, this routine is fine, but by the third week of quarantine, many people start feeling discomfort. We’ll show you how to stay productive and creative while confined within four walls.

Turn your home into a place you don’t want to leave

We now spend about 23 hours a day inside our apartments, not counting grocery runs and dog walks.

Make your space more dynamic. Rearrange the furniture — and then do it again in a few days. Paint the walls in a color you've been dreaming of. Decorate your windows with gouache and light candles in the evening. Hang up a bookshelf, art by your favorite artists — or your own. Add string lights or houseplants — now you’ve got the time to care for those orchids.

All of this can cost under $20 and completely transform your space. Make small changes daily if it helps you feel better.

Love coffee? Order a Moka pot ($7–10). Love music? Get speakers. Love movies? Order a projector (starting from $50). Most of the pleasures we used to get by going out — we can now bring home.

Keep your space clean. We know — in this atmosphere, it’s easy to fall into apathy and laziness. But still, wipe the dust, mop the floors, clean the windows, air out the rooms, and don’t let stuff pile up on every surface. When it’s fresh and clean around you — it’s calm inside you too.

Escape into virtual worlds

If real life is on pause, we can escape to alternate realities — through books, films, and games. You know that teleportation-like feeling when a good movie or short story pulls you into another world. Here we made a selection of free films and lectures available online.

Same goes for games. Even if you’ve never played before, Sims or Need For Speed can really help you pass the time and get through isolation.

Other interesting and addictive options include:

Keep your body and mind active

In normal life, we move around a lot — visiting friends, running errands, going to cafés. That keeps our bodies toned. We also handle daily tasks: navigate new routes, talk to new people, make new plans. Now that’s gone — but you can simulate it at home.

For physical movement — do morning exercises and yoga. The Mindfulness app will teach you how to meditate. For fitness, the Sworkit Lite app is great — it has strength and cardio workouts, yoga, and stretching for all fitness levels.

For mental activity — study. On the WAYUP blog, you’ll find hundreds of free, useful materials on interface design, web development, and freelancing.
