Slowing Down the Pace of Life

Schools, offices of major companies, and some factories are being closed due to quarantine. Mass events are being canceled. You no longer need—or soon won’t need—to go to work or school, and this will last from two weeks to a month.

If you live in a big city, this pause can actually feel like a relief. No more early wake-ups (unless you have a strict remote work schedule), no buses/subways, no traffic jams. You now have much more time—slow down your pace, check your messenger less often, and stop worrying about being late.

Reduced Consumption

So far, the quarantine hasn’t affected shopping malls, and people are rushing to stock up on groceries. But all the panic and anxiety are shifting focus to basic needs—safety, food, health—pushing everything else to the background. Things like new iPhones and Nikes are no longer a priority. People will try to cover only essentials, go out less often, and spend less in cafés. Berlin’s Berghain—the most famous nightclub—is closed until mid-April. Unnecessary flights and festivals will also be canceled.

If you don’t buy 20 packs of toilet paper and crates of canned food, this quarantine might actually help you save money.

Get Around to Delayed Tasks

Quarantine gives you free time to read all the books on your list and watch the movies you’ve saved. Paint your walls, start sculpting with clay, do yoga, and more.

The Environment Will Improve

Due to hundreds of canceled flights and closed air routes, CO₂ emissions are dropping. This is exactly what eco-activists have been fighting for in recent years.

What You Can Do to Feel Better

Read the Stats Correctly

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

The news says: 136,000 people infected. A HUGE, SCARY NUMBER. BUT.

That’s the total number of cases. Of those, 75,000 are closed cases and 70,500 have already recovered.

There are 60,000 active cases. If trends continue, about 56,000 of those will also recover.

Take Vitamins and Eat Well

Take 1 gram of vitamin C daily + magnesium, zinc, and iron. Omega 3-6-9. Eat at least 1 gram of protein per kilogram of body weight.

Drop Bad Habits

Avoid alcohol. Quit smoking. Get enough sleep—at least for now. It will strengthen your immune system and help you feel better overall.

Talk More with Loved Ones

If your university, office, or institution is closed—you’ve got more free time. Call your parents. Text that friend you haven’t seen in ages.

Stay Productive

Boredom is anxiety’s best friend. Use your time wisely. Read books, watch movies, exercise, create.

Study

While universities are on lockdown, you can learn a new skill—graphic design, web development, or web design. Study remotely with WAYUP—it’s safe and convenient. And if there’s ever another quarantine, you’ll be able to work remotely from anywhere in the world :) Also, our course Web Developer: Start is now free. Go for it!

And one more thing: everything will be okay.
